Funeral services for Mr. David Tom East, age 68, of Beckville, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Rev. Steve Jackson and Dr. William Everett officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Youngblood Cemetery near Beckville. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. East passed away on Monday morning, July 16, 2012, in Houston.

David Tom East was born on Jan. 25, 1944, in Haynesville, LA to Ermon and Ann Presswood East. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1962. Mr. East graduated from Tulane University in 1967, where he played football and was picked by Houston Oilers in the 1966 draft. He married Sandra Sharp on June 3, 1966, in Beckville. Mr. East worked as a coach and educator for his entire career and was currently teaching at Beckville I.S.D. He was a longtime member of the Central Baptist Church in Carthage where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jon East.

Mr. East is survived by his wife, Sandra East of Beckville; one daughter, Laynie Vandor and husband David of Houston; one brother, Jan East and wife Elaine of Ft. Worth; three sisters, Barbara Guidry and husband Shelby of Houston, Liz East of Farmer's Branch, and Debbie LaGrone and husband Killis of Carthage; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Tommy Vandor. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends and former students also survive Mr. East.

Serving a pallbearers will be Deacons of Central Baptist Church.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the CHS class of 1962 and the Beckville I.S.D. faculty and administration.
