William David Alexander, 78, of Carthage, Texas passed away on Saturday night, May 18, 2024, at his home. He was born on September 24, 1945, in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Glenn and Vera Alexander.

David was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, John and Jimmie Brooks; and granddaughter, Miranda Alexander.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Brooks Alexander; his son, Billy Alexander and wife Ashlee; daughter, Kelli Alexander Blackerby and husband Scott; and son, Dr. John Alexander and wife Misty; grandchildren, Hunter Alexander and wife Ashlyn, Conner Alexander, Seth Blackerby, Brooke Blackerby, and Jody Alexander; brothers, Glenn Alexander and wife Marjorie and Randy Alexander and wife Carrie.

David graduated from Carthage High School in 1964, and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann, in 1965. He was a proud graduate of Panola Jr. College and Stephen F. Austin State University. David was a Registered Professional Appraiser in the state of Texas, worked for Pritchard and Abbott for many years and retired from Capital Appraisal in 2015.

He was a chaplain of Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, a deacon and former KEY Ministry leader at Central Baptist Church, a member of Gideons International, and a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troup 243. David enjoyed hunting, especially squirrel hunting; time he spent cooking, hunting, and playing dominoes at the deer camp; eating out with friends; and being an avid fan of the Carthage Bulldogs, Texas Rangers, and the TAMU Aggies. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time outside gardening and taking care of his livestock. His favorite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Monty Pierce and Dr. Charles Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Waldrop Cemetery in the Brooks Community. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Todd Alexander, Stephen Alexander, Luke Alexander, Micah Cockrell, Bryan Murff, Jerry Hanszen, Pat Jones, and Charles Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Boyd, Gary Rogerson, and members of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorials may be made to Hearts Way Hospice of Northeast Texas or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
