Darryl Cockrell, 81, of Bellville Texas, formerly of Carthage, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, in Brenham, Texas, from Leukemia. He was born on May 20, 1934, in Carthage, Texas. He graduated from Dickinson High School and attended Texas A&M University and the University of Houston. Darryl was married to LaJuana Hughes on September 5, 1954, and they were married 61 years. He worked as an executive at Baker Oil Tools for 38 years. He was actively involved in the Brazos County Master Gardeners Association. He enjoyed maintaining a garden, growing grapes, reading, and working on his property. He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Ruth and daughter, Debra Donley.
Survivors include his wife, LaJuana Cockrell; sons, Dale Cockrell and wife Belinda, Michael Cockrell and wife Beth, and Randy Cockrell and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Travis, Matthew, Allison, Lisa, Kelsey, Jason, Jared, Ethan, and Charlie; brother, James Cockrell; four great-grandchildren Weston, Kade, Luke, and Tucker; and numerous other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Rehobeth Cemetery near Carthage with Dr. Dale Reed officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
