Darlene LaVon Young, 85, of Tatum, began her Heavenly journey on Apr. 25, 2017, in Longview. She was born on Dec. 28, 1931, in Marshall to the late George Benjamin and Glatha Fay Martin Jennings. Mrs. Young married Chester Arnold "Buddy" Young on Apr. 17, 1947, in Tatum and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1981. She volunteered at the Samaritan House in Tatum and worked as a columnist for the Trammel Trace Newspaper for many years. Mrs. Young was very active in the Heritage House Lunch group when she was able. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed oil painting. Nana, as her grandchildren called her, was a loving Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her. Mrs. Young was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Thomas Young and her brothers, Charles Bennie Jennings and Jimmy Eugene Jennings.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Terry Young and wife Gayle, Patricia Wyatt and husband Sammy, Kathryn Christian and husband Bryan, and Glen Young and wife Michelle all of Tatum; daughter-in-law, Judy Young of Fair Play; siblings, Linda Murphy and husband Jack of Overton, Rex Jennings and wife Jolene of Tatum, and George D. Jennings of Kilgore; grandchildren, Billy Young, Kerri Patterson, Matt and Susan Wyatt, Andy and Laura Christian, Chandler Young, Jimmy, Jeffrey, and Tammy Young, and Chris Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Landon Rowell, Jack Wyatt, Cade and Katie Young, and Arianna Patterson; and a special niece and caregiver, Vicki Gist of Tatum. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Young.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Tatum Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Billy Young, Andy Christian, Jeffrey Young, Matt Wyatt, Chandler Young, and Dennis Jennings.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors of GSMC-Longview, Encompass Home Health, Summer Meadows Rehab, and Vicki Gist for the loving care shown to Mrs. Young during her illness.
