Funeral services for Mrs. Daisie Alexander Morris, age 86, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Keefe Cropper and Rev. Leah Hanks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Panola-Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Morris passed away on Friday evening, May 27, 2011, in Shreveport, LA.
Daisie Alexander Morris was born on May 8, 1925, in Bethany, TX, to Joe and Annie Westmoreland Alexander. She graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1943, and attended Draughn Business College. Daisie married John Edward Morris on Apr. 12, 1946, in Bethany, TX. In 1955, they moved to Jackson, MS where she worked for the Parks and Recreation Department with the City of Jackson until her retirement in 1985. They moved back to Carthage in 1994, and she served as secretary for the Panola County Shrine Club and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage where she was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class and served as secretary treasurer of the Keenagers. Daisie was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband of 65 years, John E. Morris of Carthage; two sons, Joe R. Morris and wife Becky of Humble, TX and Michael P. Morris and wife Pat of Ponca City, OK; and five grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Matt Morris, Steven Morris, Joe R. Morris, Jr., Brett Morris, Wayne Alexander, and Greg Ellis.
