Obituary
Funeral services for D.H. McBride, age 100 of Carthage, Texas formerly of Goodrich, Texas will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Tom Owen to officiate. Interment to follow in the Peebles Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Monday.
A special Memorial Service will be held on the following Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2:00 PM at the Winkler House Assisted Living Facility, 513 North Adams, Carthage, Texas.
D.H. was born December 5, 1909 in Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of William Henry and Laura Elizabeth McBride and passed away December 4, 2010 in Panola County/ Carthage, Texas. His family were hard working farmers who worked at various places until D.H.'s adult life began.
On June 14, 1934, D.H. married the love of his life, Vesta Smith. They were able to enjoy 59 years of marriage. Their children were, Don Henry and twins, Rita Faye and Maria Kaye.
D.H. and Vesta truly enjoyed working with their children and teaching them to hunt, fish, garden, fly a kite, and many other activities that children participate in.
He went to work for a gas transmission company contractor in 1931. He retired after 38 years of service with United Gas Pipe Line Company at the end of December 1974. D.H. and Vesta really enjoyed retirement and the next 19 years in Goodrich, Texas until Vesta preceded him in death in 1993. During all of these 59 years together, D.H. and Vesta were members of the Baptist Church where ever they lived.
He decided to move into an assisted living facility in 2007. He chose the Winkler House Facility in Carthage, Texas to be closer to his daughter Maria. He resided there until his death.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Vesta McBride, parents, William Henry and Laura Elizabeth Crawford McBride, brothers, William Lester, J.B., Curtis, Claude, and Jessie McBride, sister, Opal Matthews, and great great-granddaughter, Alexandria Rae Gantt.
He is survived by his son, Don and wife, Kara McBride of Lufkin, TX, daughter, Rita Faye Gantt of Homer, LA, daughter, Maria Kay and husband, Joe Parker of Carthage, TX, grandchildren and spouses, Don H. McBride and wife Kathy of Onalaska, TX, Tony Gantt and wife Leigh Ann of Homer, LA, Gary Don Gantt and wife Trish of Homer, LA, Rita Maria Kirkpatrick and husband Mark of Kilgore, TX, great grandchildren, Haden Kirkpatrick of Homer, LA, Emma Gantt of Homer, LA, Rachel Gantt of Homer, LA, and Morgan Gantt of Homer, LA. Numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
