A funeral service for Cortlyn Gershon Ware, 21, of Carthage, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Walker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Cortlyn passed away on Sunday morning, June 29, 2014, in Carthage due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Cortlyn Gershon Ware was born on March 20, 1993, in Henderson to Willie Ware and Barberana Castleberry Pierson. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 2011, where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He had lived his lifetime in Carthage and was of the Baptist faith.

Cortlyn is survived by his mother, Barberana Pierson and husband Kenneth of Carthage; his father, Willie Ware of Dallas; nine brothers, Rico, JaArius, Kenaz, Jacoray, Dacorey, Lamarius, Brandon, Elijah, and Eric; and nine sisters, Nakedria, Shanteria, Asheta, Quennette, Tameia, NaKenge, Jamya, Damonica, and Kiasmyn. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Cortlyn.

Serving as pallbearers are Teldrick Robinson, Tamonte Hines, Terry Cherry, Jalen Claiborne, Darayvious Allison, Cleveland King, and the CHS Class of 2011 football team. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jamon Edwards, Ravon Sewell, Rico Marshall, William Edmond, Kalein Ware, Elijah King, Eric King, and Brandon King.
