Obituary

A graveside service for Clifford Wayne Barrett, Sr., 89, of Carthage, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Gary Cemetery with Bro. Dale Walker officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Barrett passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 25, 2014, in Carthage.

Clifford Wayne Barrett, Sr. was born on Aug. 8, 1924, in Converse, LA to the late Brooklyn Eugene and Sallie Estelle Cooley Barrett. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. Mr. Barrett married Ida Bea Ritter on July 31, 1942, in Appleby, TX and she preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2011 after 69 years of marriage. He worked in the pipeline construction business until his retirement and was a member of Operator Union Local 178. Mr. Barrett was also a member of the V.F.W and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Barrett was also preceded in death by one son, Clifford Wayne "C.W." Barrett, Jr. and two brothers, Travis and Troy Barrett.

Mr. Barrett is survived by one son, Calvin Eugene Barrett of Gary; two daughters, Pauline Godwin of Gary and Jane Pope and husband J.R. of the Shiloh Community; two nephews, Troy Barrett and wife Freda and Charles Barrett and wife Joyce all of Carthage; brother-in-law, Kenneth Ritter and wife Dorothy of Spring; sister-in-law, Peggy Ritter of Carthage; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Godwin, Willie McClelland, Shawn Nickell, Darren Wilkerson, Brian Broadway, and Travis Broadway.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dewain Cobb, Clint Pope, Mike McCleland, Bobby Templet, Hardy Barrett, and Les Harrell.
