Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. Clenton M. LaGrone, Sr., age 81 of the Deadwood Community, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Deadwood United Methodist Church with Reverend Mervin Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Deadwood Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. LaGrone passed away on Monday morning, December 17, 2007 in Carthage.
Clenton Mitchell LaGrone, Sr. was born on July 29, 1926 in the Deadwood Community of Panola County, Texas to Mitchell Emmett and Madie Fuller LaGrone. Mr. LaGrone attended school in the Deadwood Community and graduated from Carthage High School. He married Margie Cordray on December 21, 1946 in Beckville, Texas. Mr. LaGrone worked as an Engineering Specialist with United Gas Pipeline Co., retiring after 40 years. Mr. LaGrone was a lifelong member of the Deadwood United Methodist Church where he served in various offices including the Board of Trustees. He was also a devoted member of the church choir. Mr. LaGrone served on the Deadwood Cemetery Association Board for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Fortner and Doris Marsalis.
Mr. LaGrone is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margie Cordray LaGrone of the Deadwood Community; two sons, Clenton Mitchell LaGrone, Jr. and wife Diane of Manor and Killis LaGrone and wife Debbie of Carthage; one daughter, Merry LaGrone Bagley and husband Richard of the Deadwood Community; one brother, Bobby LaGrone and wife Janis of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. LaGrone.
Serving as pallbearers are Riley LaGrone, Nealan LaGrone, Derick Morris, Matt Bagley, Barry LaGrone, Don LaGrone, Mitch Fortner, and Butch Marsalis.
