Obituary

Clarice Murrah, 91, was born February 1, 1927 in Angelina County, Texas to the marriage of Will Kirk and Annie Kirk. She passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in a nursing facility in Carthage, Texas. One of six siblings, Clarice was raised and schooled in Angelina County, graduating from Lufkin High School with the Class of 1944 and also attended Massey Business College. Mrs. Murrah met and later married Hubert L. "Pistol" Murrah on February 1, 1945 and celebrated 63 years together until he preceded her in death on March 16, 2008. Mrs. Murrah was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was employed at Lufkin Supply Co. until her retirement. She loved to fish, garden, crotchet, sew, and most of all quilting. Mrs. Murrah was a member of Burke Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murrah was preceded in death by her step-father Elmer Brown; her brothers, Arthur Kirk and A.D. Kirk; and sisters Avis Sanders and Loudene Tollar.

Survivors include her daughters; Dianne (Murrah) Holcombe of Riverside, Glenda and Charles Brooks of Beckville, and Kathy and Ronnie Hamilton of Troy, Alabama; grandchildren, Wendy Smith, Kelly Hartley, Justin and Tiffaney Hamilton, Nacona and Jeff Burkett, Amber Holcombe and Jubal Holcombe; great-grandchildren, Hallie Smith, Logan Smith, Emily Smith, Danyal Foster, Krystal Foster, Draven Hartley, and Jackson Hamilton and Hugh Hamilton; sister Nobye Drumm, seven great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
