Charles Edward Johnson, age 72, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026, in Longview, Texas. He was born on February 22, 1954, in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas, to A.J. and Janice Melva Johnson. Charles graduated from Timpson High School with the class of 1973, and attended Prairieview A & M. He married Judy Ann Berry on July 18, 1987, in Carthage, Texas. Together, they built a family bound not just by blood, but by affection, support, and unwavering care. Charles was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in the Holland Quarters Community, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Charles cherished time spent visiting with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. Johnson and Janice Melva Johnson, whose teachings and examples shaped him into the man he became. Charles also joins his siblings who preceded him in death: brothers Tony, A.G., Keith, Johnnie Lane, and Johnny Johnson, and his sister Sondra Johnson. Their memories, now tender and bittersweet, were held close in Charles’s heart throughout his life.
He leaves behind his wife, Judy Johnson; children, Cedrick Johnson (Adreina), Carlos Johnson (Tenesia), Christopher Johnson, Juandrell Rocquemore, Kendrell Roquemore (Nikki), Jennifer Rocquemore, and Carolyn Strong (Fred); a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice Anthony (Fred), Rosezenia Perkins, Reginald Johnson, Vickie Brinson (Everrick), and LaKisha Windom, who all continue to feel the comfort of his deep love and guidance. Each has their own memories of Charles’s laughter, and ability to bring people together.
Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to join the family for visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home, 1131 State Highway 149, Carthage, Texas.
