Charles Melvin Hunnicutt was born on January 6, 1933' in Wister, OK and passed to his eternal home September 20, 2013 with his daughter by his side. He had lived in Carthage, TX for the last 12 years to be close to his family. Mr. Hunnicutt graduated from Wilburton, HS in Oklahoma then set out to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and honorable discharged in March of 1955. It was during his time in the Army that he got his first chance to travel. Memories of his time in Germany were proudly shared through out his life and gave him the desire to continue traveling. He started a family in 1962 and when his girls got old enough to travel, he would load them up and set out in a different direction to see history, God's beautiful creations and everything along the way. By doing this they saw almost all 50 states and even visited Canada. Charley worked for the Santa Fe Railroad his entire career taking him to Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas before his retirement making countless friends that still kept in touch. Growing up during the depression, he learned to get by on little and always share whatever he had...even to strangers. When you went to visit him you rarely left without something. Whether candy, clothes, money or advice, he always wanted you to have something he thought you could use. Charley had many accomplishments, but nothing made him more proud than his two daughters and their families. Being a simple man, if his girls were happy, he was happy, because being their daddy always came first to him. Mr. Hunnicutt was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W and was a Mason.
Left to cherish his memory is daughters, Leslie Klingaman and her husband Tracy of St. Charles, Missouri and Terri English and husband Olen of Carthage, Texas; two brothers, Glen Hunnicutt and Carl Gene Hunnicutt and wife Aloma all of Midwest City, Oklahoma; one sister, Vivian Brown and husband Bill of Wilburton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren who he always called his buddies, Garrett and Gabrielle Klingaman and Marlei and Obrei English. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends also survive Mr. Hunnicutt.
