Funeral services for Reverend Charles Willard "Hobo" Parker, Sr, age 60 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Walter Hoffpauir, Jr., Reverend Leon Anderson, and Reverend Larry Doucet officiating. Interment will be in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Reverend Parker passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 in Carthage.
Charles Willard "Hobo" Parker, Sr. was born on March 10, 1948 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Willard and Mattie King Parker. Mr. Parker married Elizabeth Ann Vercher on May 5, 1972 in Orange, Texas. He worked as a mechanic and was the pastor of Life Tabernacle. Preaching and serving the Lord was his passion. He loved collecting and working on old cars. Mr. Parker had lived in Carthage since 1990, moving from Westlake, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, his step-mother, Helen Marie Parker; two brothers, Billy Doty and James "Junior" Doty; and one son, Sgt. Terry W. Hoffpauir, Jr.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vercher Parker of Carthage, TX; his father, Willard Parker and wife Ethel of Gillis, LA; one son, Charles Willard Parker, Jr. and wife Wendy of Clayton, TX; three daughters, Rebecca Doucet and husband John of Orange, TX, Suella Cagle of Orange, TX, Jennifer Evans and husband Royce of Carthage, TX; one brother, Billy Newman of Ragley, LA; four sisters, Darlene Foshee and husband Arvis of Westlake, LA, Cathy Richard and husband J.W. of Westlake, LA, Brenda Cox and husband Doyle of Moss Bluff, LA, and Ruby Strickland and husband Ronnie of Westlake, LA; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Parker.
Serving as pallbearers are Doyle Cox, J. W. Richard, Ronnie Strickland, Robert Gibbo, Doc Collins, and Matt Spencer. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Billy Newman and Willard Parker.
