Charles Lee Evers, 84, of the Riderville Community near Carthage, TX, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at his home in Riderville. He was born on May 18, 1938, in Magnolia, AR to the late Curtis Lee and Susie Virginia Tucker Evers. Charles graduated from New London, TX High School with the class of 1956. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Houston. Charles married Norma Sue "Susie" Whitaker on Sept. 10, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Cushing, TX. He enjoyed a 30-year career in education, having taught at Reagan and Waltrip High Schools in Houston and at Carthage High School until his retirement. Charles loved puzzles and challenges. Anyone who knew him expected to see him show his hooey-hooey stick at any opportunity. He was a skilled handyman and he, Susie, and their children, built a two-story home on Toledo Bend themselves. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon McCrary.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susie Evers; children, Chris Evers and wife Sharon, Dawn Zajicek and husband Randy; grandchildren, Aaron Evers, Alanna Zajicek and Austin Zajicek; great-grandchildren Audrey and Adi Zajicek; sister, Sandra Field; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at Nat Cemetery near Cushing, TX under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
