Charles Walbert Comer, 82, of the Fair Play Community in Panola County, TX, passed away on Thursday morning, June 15, 2017, in Carthage. He was born on April 21, 1935, in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late Talley Fedrick and Myrtle May Harwell Comer. Mr. Comer attended Sunset Schools in Dallas and later T.C.U. and Arlington State. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Mr. Comer married Mary Elizabeth Werge on Aug. 6, 1957, in Dallas and she preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2013. He worked as a police officer and as a truck driver. Mr. Comer moved to Panola County in 1982, from Meridian, MS and was a member of Allison Chapel United Methodist Church in Fair Play. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Velvie Estelle Comer Hickerson, Donald Floyd Comer, Thomas G. Comer, Mary Margueritte Comer Baggett, Francis Nell Comer, Robert Edward Comer, and Howard Comer.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Charles Comer and wife Karren of Flint, David Thomas Comer and wife Cindy Howes of Lake Murvaul, and John Edward Comer and wife Rene of San Marcos; grandchildren, Aaron, Eric, Adam, Amon, Avery, Emily, Austin, Stephanie, and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Kinley, Weston, Everett, Kasen, Harper, and Cooper.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Waldrop Cemetery with Steve Comer officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the graveside service.

Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Comer's grandsons.
