Charlene Higgs Rivers, 82, of Gary, passed away on Saturday night, March 25, 2017, in Carthage. She was born on Aug. 8, 1934, in Fulton, KY to the late Lee and Virgie Brassfield Higgs. She married Andrew Rivers in 1992, and he preceded her in death in June of 2000. Mrs. Rivers moved to Gary from St. Louis, MO in 2015, and was a member of the Day of Redemption Christian Fellowship Church in Gary. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy D. Higgs and Delius Ingram; and sisters, Grace and Marie.

Survivors include her children, Joseph Smith and wife Consuella of Gary and Judy Ann Bradbury of St. Louis; brother, James Higgs of South Bend, IN; 5 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
