Obituary

Mrs. Charlcie Nutt Phillips, 98, of Carthage, passed away on Sunday morning, July 23, 2017, in Carthage. Charlcie Mae Nutt Phillips was born on May 19, 1919, in Gary, TX to the late Charley and Delia Cassity Nutt. She graduated from Gary High School and attended Panola College. She married James William Phillips on July 17, 1937, in Beckville and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2001, after 63 years of marriage. Mrs. Phillips lived most of her life in Panola County. She and James lived in Beaumont during WWII, while he worked in the shipyards. Mrs. Phillips worked at Gary Gas for many years. She was formerly a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Gary where she taught Sunday school. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Carthage. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Travis Buford Nutt, James V. "Bid" Nutt, and Alton Nutt.

Mrs. Phillips is survived her son, Bobby James Phillips and wife Jo Nell of Carthage; three grandchildren, Christy Phillips and husband Terry of Edgewood, Cammy Skalla and husband Rick of Minnetonka Beach, MN, and Cameron James Phillips of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Phillips of Mineral Wells, Rachel Phillips of Edgewood, and Jeremy and Matthew Skalla of Minnetonka; and sister-in-law, Odie Nutt of Carthage.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who were affectionately known as "Mrs. Phillips' girls", Mary Anderson, Elaine Sims, Fay Boyd, and Vera Roberts.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Gary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Sidney Burns, Robert Williams, Bid Alton Nutt, Travis Buford Nutt, Jr., Cameron James Phillips, and Danny Tate.
