A funeral service for Cecil Jake Bettevy, 94, of Carthage, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Calvin Hancock officiating. A Masonic graveside with entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage under the auspices of Carthage Masonic Lodge #521. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Bettevy passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 10, 2015, in Carthage.
Cecil Jake Bettevy was born on Dec. 11, 1920, in Marksville, LA to the late Jake V. and Wilma L. George Bettevy. He graduated as valedictorian from Buckeye High School near Pineville and Marksville, LA. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. Mr. Bettevy married Margaret Guin on Oct. 2, 1948, in Pineville. They moved to Carthage in 1952, from Alexandria and Mr. Bettevy went to work for Pippen Motor Co. After retiring from Pippen, he served on the Carthage Fire Dept. for 12 years before his retirement. Mr. Bettevy was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521, Sharon Temple Shrine, York Rite, and Waco Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Bettevy was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Sherwood, Emily Bettevy, and Charlene McInnis.
Mr. Bettevy is survived by his wife, Margaret Bettevy of Carthage; two sons, Cecil C. Bettevy and wife Eileen of Shreveport and John Michael Bettevy and wife Sharon of Heath; three grandchildren, John Adam Bettevy, Carrie Brett Hoang and husband Tien, and Ryan Andrew Bettevy and wife Kimberly; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Michael and Aubrey Ann Bettevy.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors of ETMC Carthage and Tyler for the loving care shown to Mr. Bettevy.
Serving as pallbearers are Chilton Stuart, Mark Cox, James Ewing, Howard Simpson, John Adam Bettevy, Ryan Andrew Bettevy, and Tien Hoang.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Hal Palmer, Brodie Akins, Guy Bunyard, and the members of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Dept.
