Funeral services for Mr. Carroll Holcomb, age 85, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Jones officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Holcomb passed away on Tuesday morning, Aug. 2. 2011, in Carthage.
Carroll Holcomb was born on March 10, 1926, in Farmersville, LA to Carroll George and Musie Ella Thomas Holcomb. He graduated from Alto, TX High School with the class of 1944. After high school, Mr. Holcomb joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged. After the war, Mr. Holcomb attended Business College in Lufkin. He married Janet Rogers on Sept. 5, 1950, in Alto. Mr. Holcomb worked as a parts manager for an auto dealership in Jacksonville until he moved to Carthage to work for Butler Chevrolet. In 1996, he retired from Pippen Motor Co. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church where he taught the Lou Ray Sunday School class and served as a lay minister for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Roger Wayne Holcomb who died in 1960.
Mr. Holcomb is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Holcomb of Carthage; three sons, Charles Holcomb and wife Debbie of Carthage, Jimmy Holcomb and wife Pam of Burnet, and Mitch Holcomb and wife Kim of Carthage; one brother, Norman Holcomb and wife Barbara of Lufkin; four grandchildren, Eric Holcomb and wife Niki, and Holdon, Hampton, and Taylor Holcomb; and two great-grandchildren, Breanna and Kaden Holcomb.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of Heart's Way Hospice and Briarcliff Healthcare Center for the loving care shown to Mr. Holcomb.
Serving as pallbearers are Justin Barron, Robert Earl Smith, Gene Whitaker, Earle Powell, Charlie Walden, and Manuel Rodriguez.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Lou Ray Sunday School Class.
