Carolyn Deaton, 86, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Tuesday evening, Jan. 28, 2020, in Carthage. Carolyn Abernathy was born on Feb. 3, 1933, in Mayfield, KY to the late Waymon and Lillie Mae Cook Abernathy. She married Ples Van Deaton on Dec. 24, 1971, in Marshall and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2007. Mrs. Deaton worked as a secretary for Thiokol, the U.S. Government, and James Boykin until her retirement. She lived most of her life in Carthage and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Mrs. Deaton was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and grandson, Van Alan Campbell who passed away on Sept. 25, 2004.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kirby Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Tatum Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
