Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Jane Bertram, age 91 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bertram passed away on Sunday morning, December 14, 2008 in Longview.

Carolyn Jane Kirkpatrick Bertram was born on July 13, 1917, in Marthaville, Louisiana to Raleigh C. and Jane Pierce Kirkpatrick. She graduated from Boyce High School in Boyce, LA with the class of 1935 and attended Port Arthur Business College. After business school, Mrs. Bertram worked for the First National Bank in Port Arthur for four years. In 1955, Mrs. Bertram started working for Panola College. She worked the next 28 years for Panola, retiring as an accountant in 1983. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carthage where she was also a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bertram was preceded in death by two brothers, Capt. Raleigh C. Kirkpatrick, Jr. and Rodney H. Kirkpatrick; and one sister, Ella Maude Skeeles.

Mrs. Bertram is survived by two sons, Robert Patrick Bertram of Longview and Rodney H. Bertram and wife Patricia of Longview; two grandchildren, Cammy Altman and husband Jim of Longview and Courtney Shelton and husband Jeff of Dallas; four great-grandchildren, Owen Altman of Longview, Jared Altman of Longview, Josh Altman of Ft. Worth, and Ella Shelton of Dallas; and one nephew, Bill Skeeles of New Orleans.

Serving as pallbearers are Jim Altman, Jared Altman, Dean Jeffress, Jeff Shelton, Gary McGehee, and Bill Skeeles.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Josh Altman.
