Obituary

A memorial service celebrating the life of Carol Barrett Daniels will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Rd., Sugar Land, Texas.  Mrs. Daniels died on April 4, 2021 in Sugar Land, Texas.  Born on November 5, 1930, in Flat River, Missouri, she was the youngest of twelve children of Thomas H. and Avis Boston Barrett.  She graduated from Flat River High School, received her undergraduate degree from South East Missouri State University and her master's degree from Northwestern Louisiana State University.  She taught elementary grades in Middlebrook and Ester, Missouri; Tyler, Texas; Natchitoches, Louisiana; and Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Carol was active in her professional life in various educational organizations and honorary societies.  In Natchitoches, LA., she was on the faculty of the Demonstration School of Northwestern State University.  While in Hattiesburg, she taught at the Magnet School and was honored as an outstanding teacher.

She was ordained a deacon in the Presbyterian Church and served as Moderator of the Women of the Church in Natchitoches and Hattiesburg.  She taught Sunday school for a number of years.  She served as a Girl Scout leader and Neighborhood Chairwoman for the Pine Belt Girl Scout Council.

Upon retiring, she and her husband, Jack, moved to Sugar Land, Texas to be near their family.  Since that time, she has been active in Sugar Land First United Methodist Church in various roles.  She has served for several years as a Stephen Minister and has been active in Bible study.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack L. Daniels; daughter, Sue Daniels Stanley and husband Tim Stanley, of Richmond, Texas; son, James L. Daniels of New Orleans, Louisiana; and granddaughters, Christina L. Hill and husband, Caleb Hill, of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Katherine L. Garrison and husband, Matthew Garrison, of Livingston, Texas.

Services will be held in the church sanctuary.  Due to Covid restrictions, masks will be required and no reception will be held.  You are invited to extend your condolences to the family after the service.

Burial will be in Youngblood Cemetery in Beckville, Texas at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 with Rev. Jeffrey Craft officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home, 1131 State Highway 149, Carthage, Texas.

The family would like to thank Janie Aragon, Gloria Williams, and all of mom's wonderful caregivers for faithfully watching over her and caring for her during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Building Fund of Sugar Land First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
