Carl Tiller Neal of Elysian Fields, Texas, passed away on Aug. 8, 2012. He was born June 1, 1930, to Edgar Eugene and Bettie Lucille Tiller Neal, in the same house where he currently lived.
He graduated from Elysian Fields High School with the class of 1947. After graduating from Texas A&M in 1951, Carl spent 42 years with Southwestern Bell in Dallas. A lifelong Methodist, he was an active member of Bethel UMC, Brandon Ave. UMC, and Mt. Zion UMC, and loved the annual Bethel Camp Meetings. He enjoyed his membership in the Lion's Club in Oak Cliff, Waxahachie, and Carthage.
Carl relished working with his cattle and timber. In 2003, he was named Harrison County Conservationist of the Year. He was very excited about being a finalist in the 2012 Texas Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year contest. In his later years, Carl was virtually blind and had limited mobility, but that didn't stop him from enjoying coffee with friends most mornings at the bank, even if it meant driving the tractor or Mule into town.
"The Grand Nine" were the pride and joy of his life: Chris Unzicker, Carla Neal, Matt Neal, Jordan Neal, Tiffany Neal, Laura Laine, Caleb Neal, Olivia Neal, and Genevieve Neal. He is survived by his children Nancy Neal Laine and Larry of San Antonio, Richard Edgar Neal and Winnie of Waxahachie, Carl David Neal and Sue of Midlothian, and Dr. Douglas Alan Neal and Carrie of Missouri, niece, Susan Neal Wisdom of Corsicana,Martha Neal Wood of Clarksville, sister-in-law Reba Cassity Neal, and many relatives, including 18 of his Tiller first cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edgar Eugene Neal, Jr.
Visitation will be Friday, August 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion UMC in DeBerry with Rev. David Urban and Pastor Chad Commander officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elysian Fields Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Frank Langley, Albert Tiller, Dr. Robert Tiller, Bill Tiller, David McClendon, Chris McClendon, Scott McClendon, Patrick McClendon, Chris Unzicker, Matt Neal, Jordan Neal, and Caleb Neal.
