A rosary service for Mr. Carl Benjamin Mazzola, Jr., age 66, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church with Father Michael Adams officiating. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer. Services are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mr. Mazzola passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Carthage.

Carl Benjamin Mazzola, Jr. was born on April 19, 1944, in New Haven, Connecticut to Carl Benjamin Mazzola, Sr. and Josephine De Maria Mazzola. Carl graduated from R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, TX with the class of 1962. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1962, where he served his country in France, Germany, and Vietnam, where he was awarded the bronze star. He was honorably discharged in 1973. He married Corliss Ann Wright on Jan. 9, 1971, in Dallas. Carl worked in law enforcement for over 30 years. In 1980, he moved from Ft. Worth to Carthage to work for the Carthage Police Dept. where he served as the K-9 officer for the last 10 years of his career, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church in Carthage. Carl was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Corliss Mazzola of Carthage; two brothers, Robert Mazzola and wife Lyn of Weatherford and Norman Mazzola and wife Jackie of Carrollton; one sister, Cynthia Petty and husband Cecil of Sacul; his step-mother, Hetty Martha Mazzola of Gilmer; and 8 nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are the present and former members of the Carthage Police Department.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Mack Cranford.
