Obituary

Calvin Phillips Babcock, 89, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Friday morning, June 21, 2024, in Carthage. He was born on February 19, 1935, in Olean, New York to the late Newell Arthur and Harriett Velma DePew Babcock. He graduated from high school in Galesburg, Illinois with the class of 1954, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Mr. Babcock served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961. He married Meleta Lerine Monroe on May 9, 1959, in Fouke, Arkansas. They moved to Carthage in 2014, from Friendship, New York. He is a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred Station, New York. Mr. Babcock worked for many years at Carthage I.S.D. where he installed audio visual equipment and at several radio stations thru the years including KGAS in Carthage. He was a member of the Carthage Kiwanis Club. Mr. Babcock was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Phillip Burrows; daughter, Katherine Pendergraft; son, Newell Nathan Babcock; and granddaughter, Jennifer Wannamaker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Meleta Babcock; daughter, Donna Loofboro and husband Al; grandchildren, Amanda Baker and husband Randy, Michael Pendergraft and wife Rachel, Jeanice Luneau and husband Patrick, Derrick Loofboro and wife Marcie, and Caitlin Gibson and husband Weston; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Gould; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Gwinn officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Weston Gibson, Derrick Loofboro, Patrick Luneau, Kenneth Monroe, Tucker Gatlin, and Kevin Mercer.

Honorary pallbearers are Parker Luneau, Hunter Luneau, Graham Gibson, and Callaway Loofboro.
