Funeral services for Mr. C. R. "Buster" Burns, age 82 of the Murvaul Community will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Eastside Baptist Church with Reverend Dale Walker, Dr. Gene C. Smith, Dr. P. A. DuBose, and Reverend Calvin Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery near Gary, Texas under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Burns passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Carl Russell "Buster" Burns was born on July 14, 1924 in Panola County, Texas to Marvin and Fannie Choate Burns. Mr. Burns graduated from Gary High School in 1942. He married Grace Dean Wilkerson on September 25, 1943 in the Murvaul Community. Mr. Burns worked as a building contractor, farmer, and rancher. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gary where he was very active and was a member of the Brotherhood, was in the Men's Sunday School Class, and served as church treasurer for many years. Mr. Burns had lived his lifetime in Panola County. He is preceded in death by his wife in 1997; brother, J. M. Burns, Jr.; and sister, Madie Austin.
Mr. Burns is survived by his son, Sidney Burns and wife Connie of the Murvaul Community; granddaughter, Nichole Davis and husband Cody of Houston; sister, Cosette Reed of Carthage; sister-in-law, Sybil Burns of Carthage; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Troy and Theda Lake of the Dotson Community; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Mr. Burns' nephews, Troy Lynn Lake, Walter Lake, Joe Lake, Maxie Lake, Chilton Stuart, Jr., Dale Reed, Gerald Burns, Howard Jarvis, and Tim Seegers.
If desired, memorials may be given to Eastside Baptist Church or the Brotherhood of Eastside Baptist Church, 1996 F.M. 999, Gary, Texas 75643.
