Funeral services for Mr. Bruce K. Johnson, Sr., age 47 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. Allen Tilley and Pastor Leah Hanks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in the Snap Community of Panola County under the auspices of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 A.F. & A.M. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson passed away on Wednesday morning, April 1, 2009 in Carthage.

Bruce Kyle Johnson, Sr. was born on March 5, 1962 in Carthage, Texas to David Clifford and Mary Rose Weaver Johnson. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1980 and attended Panola College where he took welding courses. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 and the Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler. He loved hunting, bailing hay, animals, and being outdoors. He lived his lifetime in Carthage and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his father and mother, David and Mary Rose Johnson of Carthage; one son, Bruce K. Johnson, Jr. of Carthage; one daughter, Amanda Rose Johnson and fiancé Josh Romero of the Riderville Community; one brother, David A. Johnson and wife Charlene of Carthage; one sister, Margaret Johnson of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one niece, Lisa Johnson of College Station; and one nephew, David A. Johnson, Jr. of Carthage. Numerous friends also survive Mr. Johnson.

Serving as pallbearers are David Bush, William Pierce, Doug Lightfoot, Stan Davis, Sidney Shelton, and Bubba Hudson. Serving as honorary pallbearers is the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521.
