Funeral services for Bro. Walter Riley, age 82, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 25, 2012, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jesse Yule and Bro. Bruce Will officiating. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Bro. Riley passed away on Sunday evening, Apr. 22, 2012, in Longview.
James Walter Riley was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in Zavalla, TX to Walter Braxton and Jettie Frances Reynolds Riley. Bro. Riley served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp and was honorably discharged. Later in life, Bro. Riley served his country in the National Guard. He was a minister for many years having preached at Liberty Chapel and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Churches in Panola County before his retirement. He also worked as a truck driver for many years. Bro. Riley married Nancy Lee Davis on June 20, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Apr. 13, 2001. He married Polly Ann Wylie on June 22, 2002, in Waskom, TX. Bro. Riley loved fishing, tinkering with small engines, and putting together model cars. He moved to the Carthage area in the 1960's from Crossett, Ark. and was a current member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Riley.
Bro. Riley is survived by his wife, Polly Riley of Carthage; four children, Walter Lee Riley of Carthage, Joyce Ann Tyler of Tyler, Becky Colberg and husband Michael of Carrollton, and Diane Saucedo of Flower Mound; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Serving as pallbearers are James Riley, Cody Tyler, Casey Tyler, Chris Tyler, Bryan Dreyer, Juston Yule, Duke Morgan, and Matthew Riley.
