Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the passing of our Parents, Lee and Bonnie Todd.

Our most beloved and treasured Mom, Bonnie, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2024. We had just celebrated her 82nd birthday.

On the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, our very loved and cherished Dad, Lee, passed away. He was 81 years old.

Bonnie Gene Blomquist was born on Sept. 1, 1942, in Austin, Texas to the late Chester and Mary Irene Mott Blomquist. Buddy Lee Todd, Jr. was born on Dec. 23, 1942, in Waycross, Georgia to the late Buddy Lee Todd, Sr. and Catherine Y. Gainey Todd.

Mom and Dad grew up in Austin where they attended school together from elementary through high school. Mom & Dad married on Dec. 27, 1958 and welcomed with proud, loving hearts, five children, Cindy, Lisa, Scott, Nathan and Tracy. They celebrated 65+ years together this past December.

Mom was the epitome of a proud Stay at Home mom. Family meant everything to her. Visits with one of us or all of us brought Mom the most happiness. She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom supported our family in every possible way. She enjoyed being involved and hands-on in all five of our lives and our activities when we were growing up. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a homeroom mom, a dance, baseball, football, theater, and cheer mom. She loved hearing about what her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. Mom was always there for advice, help, another opinion or just listening when needed. She was our biggest supporter and staunchest defender. She was the truth when we had to hear it and the one who could put us in our place with just a glance. Mom was our safe harbor and our calm reassurance. She was the sweet smile we looked for from across a room. She was our Mom and we were her world. Along with being the best Mom to the five of us, she also worked at various jobs that she really enjoyed throughout her life before she and Dad retired. Mom never met a stranger. She always had a smile to share, kind words to give and a story to tell with whomever she encountered. Mom was the heart of our family.

Dad started working at a young age. His first job was at Checker Front Grocery store, which led to his position as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Post Office. From Dad's length of employment, and responsibilities at the Post Office, he became an Investigator for the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. With his gained experience and knowledge Dad went to work for Texas Instruments as Regional Security Manager. He retired after 20+ years. Dad had an unyielding drive and determination in him. He didn't allow obstacles to stand in his way. Dad had a knack for figuring out anything. His list of skills was vast and extraordinary. His knowledge was unending. There wasn't much he couldn't do. As the five of us grew up Dad was also involved in all our, as he referred to them, "extracurricular activities." Dad coached both Little League Baseball and football. He drove the seven of us on so many vacations in our station wagon with our popup camper. He was hands on with raising steers, hogs and lambs. Dad taught us everything from riding a bike to driving a car. We learned the correct way to mow a yard. Duct tape and WD40 fix everything. Think fast on your feet. How and the reason why you take care of your car. If you're not first, you're last. Dad was never wrong and he never made a mistake. We will miss his dry sense of humor and quick wit. Dad, like Mom, was always just a phone call away for whatever advice we needed or question answered. To talk about the weather, politics or news. Or to hear the latest update on "what's happening at our end of the world?" Dad especially loved to tinker on his 1969 Ford pickup truck aka "Greenie. He was the foundation of our family.

Mom and Dad lived in Las Vegas for 22 years before moving to Carthage in 2017, to be closer to family.

In addition to both of their parents, Bonnie and Lee were preceded in death by their youngest son, Nathan; oldest granddaughter, Kari; twin grandsons, Ethan and Evan Fincher; and Bonnie's siblings, Nell Bentley,  Chester Blomquist, Jr. and Mary Francis Almquist.

The couple are survived by their children, Cindy Kopecky and husband Al, Lisa Fincher and husband Kevin, Scott Todd and wife Laura, and Tracy Chenoweth and husband Cory; 11 grandchildren, Brittany, Samantha, Cori, Matthew, Courtlan, Katie, Ryan, Joshua, Talon, McKenleigh, Jacob; and 15 great-grandchildren. They also leave behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Followed by a Celebration of Lee and Bonnie's life on Tuesday October 8, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
