Funeral services for Mrs. Birdie Cameron Carter, age 95 of the Galloway Community in Panola County, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Wiles and Bro. Harold Gunstanson officiating. Interment will follow at Adams Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Carter passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009 in Shreveport.
Birdie Dieana Cameron Carter was born on August 30, 1913 in Cass County, Texas to Leslie Loyd Cameron and Mary Lucy Pierce Cameron. She married John Ernest Carter and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1979. She lived in the Galloway Community for 80 years and was a member of the Deadwood United Pentecostal Church. She was also preceded in death by one son, James (Jay) Carter; one grandson, Larry Carter; five brothers; one sister; one son-in-law; and one daughter-in-law.
Mrs. Carter is survived by three sons, Buddy Carter and wife Mattie Grace of Paxton, Charlie Carter and wife Sue of DeBerry, and Daniel Carter and wife Jeanette of Galloway; three daughters, Mary Jones of Panola; Connie May and husband Bruce of Galloway, and Shirley Broadus and husband Richard Gean of Galloway; sister-in-law, Winnie Haney of Longview; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends also survive Mrs. Carter.
Serving as pallbearers are Robbie Carter, Don Carter, Timothy Jones, Wayne Carter, James Bond Broadus, and Eddie Carter.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Marvin May, Jr., Ronnie May, Pete May, Billy Jones, Clinton Ray Carter, and Nathan Jones.
