A funeral service for Mr. Billy Ray Baker, 67, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dale Walker and Rev. Tommy Speights officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Baker passed away on Wednesday night, Dec. 24, 2014, in Longview.
Billy Ray Baker was born on Dec. 2, 1947, in Logansport, LA to Garvin and Elsie Farmer Baker. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1967. Mr. Baker served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He married Deborah Willis on Jan. 10, 1970, in Carthage. Mr. Baker worked in the oil field. He loved playing the guitar and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his mother and his sister, Debbie Gage.
Mr. Baker is survived by his father, Garvin Baker of Carthage; his wife, Debbie Baker of Carthage; four sons, Jamey Baker and wife Sharon of Gary, Phillip Baker and wife Holly of Gary, Scotty Baker and wife Rebeka of Gary, and Chance Baker of Carthage; two brothers, Weldon Baker and wife Rebecca and Dale Baker and wife Sarah all of Deadwood; aunts, Elaine Ortigo and husband Huey of Deadwood and Helen Barnett of Carthage; and 9 grandchildren, Colby, Hailey, Alaina, Jordan, Brent, Trinity, Dustin, Leigh-Anna, and Bentley Baker. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Baker.
Serving as pallbearers are Patrick Gage, Wayne Baker, Josh Baker, Chase Dawson, Dennis Smith, Edward Laird, Kevin Landreneaux, and Jay Horan.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mr. Baker's grandsons, Colby Baker, Jordan Baker, Brent Baker, Dustin Baker, and Bentley Baker.
