Billie Jean Darnell Vandagriff, 93, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Friday night, May 20, 2022, in Shreveport, LA. Billie Jean Smith was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Center, TX to the late Roy O. Smith, Sr. and Jewel Morris Kennemer Smith. She graduated from Marshall High School with the class of 1946. Billie Jean married Lawrence Edwin "Bo" Darnell on Dec. 18, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1973. Mrs. Vandagriff worked as a secretary for Carthage I.S.D. until her retirement. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Stevie Darnell McLaughlin and brothers, Roy O. Smith, Jr. and Pete Smith.

She is survived by her son, Mike Darnell and grandchildren, Mitchell Whitley, Melissa McLaughlin, and Lauren Darnell.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Restland Memorial Park with Dr. Monty Pierce officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
