Obituary

Bill Bradley, 92, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Thursday night, Jan. 28, 2021, in Carthage. Billy Gene "Bill" Bradley was born on Feb. 27, 1928, in Dublin, Erath County, TX to the late Charles L. and Gladys Idoma Clary Bradley. He was a 1945 graduate of Dublin High School. Bill married Betty Jo Tucker on June 11, 1950, in Ruidoso, NM and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2010, after 60 years of marriage. After 2 years of service in the U.S. Navy, he entered Tarleton State University, transferring to Texas A&M in the fall of 1951. He was a member of "C" Veteran Company in the advanced ROTC where he was a Distinguished Military Student. He graduated in 1953, with a BSEE degree and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was discharged in 1962, with the rank of Captain.

He began his career with Texas Power and Light Company in 1953, upon graduation from Texas A&M. He served in several engineering and operating capacities, including Central Division Engineer, Assistant Supervisor of Transmission and Distribution, and Assistant District Manager of the Irving District. In March of 1968, he transferred to the Sandow SES of Industrial Generating Company as Assistant Fuel Superintendent. He transferred to the Big Brown SES in Fairfield as Fuel Superintendent in February of 1970, and was promoted to General Superintendent in January of 1973. In October of the same year, he transferred to Dallas as Manager of Fuel for Texas Utilities Generating Company.

In October of 1975, he was elected Vice-President, Engineering and Construction, Texas Utilities Services, Inc. In November 1976, he was elected President and Director of Chaco Energy Company, a new subsidiary of Texas Utilities Company, with headquarters in Albuquerque, NM. In January of 1984, he was elected Executive Vice-President, Director, and General Manager of Texas Utilities Mining Company. He retired from Texas Utilities Company on Aug. 1, 1987, after 34 years plus of service.

Mr. Bradley was a Registered Professional Engineer. He is a past Director and New Mexico Representative of the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute, past Director of the New Mexico Mining Association, past Director of the American Mining Congress and served as the Texas Utilities Technical Representative of the Slurry Transport Association.

Mr. Bradley is a Charter Member and Past Camp Commander of the Horace Randel Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Past Commander of the East Texas Brigade of the Texas Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church near Carthage. Mr. Bradley was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bradley.

He is survived by his sons, Billy Lee Bradley and wife Julia of Carthage and Charles Warren Bradley and wife Carol of Fairfield; twin-sister, Dorothy June Bloyd; sister, Jewel Dean Herbert; grandchildren, Erin Bradley Bennett and husband Jonathan, Justin Bradley and wife Gina, Scottie Leatherman and wife Becky, Shelley Lott and husband Jonathan, and Shawna Martin and husband Michael; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at Restland Memorial Park with Dr. David Holder officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
