A funeral service for Mrs. Betty Sue Ridings, 77, of Lake Murvaul, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Newton Hambrick officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Ridings passed away on Sunday morning, Feb. 2, 2014, at her home on Lake Murvaul.
Betty Sue Lockridge Ridings was born on May 26, 1936, in New Boston, TX to Cecil Brown and Susie Mae Powell Lockridge. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1954. Mrs. Ridings married Wilford Lee Ridings on March 18, 1955, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2011. She worked as a teacher's aide for Spring I.S.D. for many years. Betty was an extremely talented pianist and vocalist. She loved traveling, playing the piano, and being a witness to others. Betty and Wilford traveled to Red River, NM many summers where they attended church at the community center and Betty served as the pianist. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family which she cherished. She also served for many years as the pianist at First Baptist Church of Carthage. Betty and Wilford moved to Lake Murvaul in 1990, from Houston and she was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Gary where she played the piano and sang. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, LaJuana G. Hallauer.
Mrs. Ridings is survived by one daughter, Pam Patterson and husband Bobby of Lake Murvaul; two sons, Michael Ridings and wife Joan of San Antonio and Bruce Ridings and wife Cindy of Spring; one brother, Tony Lockridge of Lake Murvaul; six grandchildren, Jennifer Griffin and husband Billy, Jessica Lackey and husband Phil, Matthew Ridings and wife Marti, Amber Ridings, Jordan Ridings, and Amanda Ridings; and seven great-grandchildren. Nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Ridings.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Texas Oncology in Longview and Dr. Koon, Heart's Way Hospice, the New Hope Baptist Church Family, and her loving family and friends for the care and compassion extended to Betty during her illness.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sidney Williamson, Phillip Crump, Kenneth Skinner, Larry Hunt, Russell Birdsong, and Cameron Birdsong.
