Betty Hudson, 90, of Carthage, passed away on Thursday evening, Feb. 22, 2018, at her home in Carthage. Betty Jean Dennard was born on April 25, 1927, and was a life-long resident of Panola County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Opal Duke Dennard, a pioneer Panola County family. She was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church where she joined on July 10, 1949, along with her parents from Cedar Grove Baptist Church in the Snap Community where she grew up as a child. She was a 1944 graduate of Carthage High School. She married Joe Hudson on Aug. 25, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage. In her spare time, Betty liked to crochet and needle point and most importantly, being a true wife and a loving mother who was always there for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert A. Dennard in 1993; and sister, Frances Dennard Jones in 1971.

Survivors include her husband, Joe E. Hudson of Carthage; daughter, Amy Allison and husband Sam of Carthage; sons, Mark Hudson and wife Janice of San Mateo, CA and Maury Hudson of Texarkana, TX; niece, Dr. Jan Forester of Longview; nephews, John Jones of Tyler, Jim Jones of Longview, and Jerry Jones of Tyler; special friends and caretakers, Clovers Matlock, Nella Johnson, and Judy Mary; and her beloved dog, Cricket.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leah Hanks and Dennis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are John Jones, Jim Jones, Olin Joffrion, Jr., Jeb Jones, Steve Grimes, and Phil Grimes.

Honorary pallbearers are John Brinkley and Jim White.
