Betty Alice Splittorff Hudman, age 88, of Marshall, Texas, passed away on Saturday afternoon, November 23, 2024, in Marshall. She was born on September 13, 1936, in Ravanna, Arkansas to the late Charles Edward and Elsie Lee Askew Splittorff. Betty was the youngest of four sisters and grew up in Rodessa, Louisiana. In 1953, she moved to Mineola, Texas and attended high school there. Later she attended one semester in Goodrich, Texas, then moved again, graduating from high school in Carthage, Texas. Betty married Orval Ray Hudman on January 10, 1956, at Bethany Baptist Church in Bethany, Louisiana. They later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she had two children, Becky Arlene and Kelvin Ray Hudman, then moved back to Bethany in 1964, where she got a job with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk at the Panola Post Office. She later became Postmaster of Panola, Texas and worked a total of 37 years. The love of her life, Orval Ray Hudman, preceded her in death on May 23, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Revil Moon, Estelle Mayner, and Delores Kirkpatrick. Betty enjoyed her retirement and loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Becky Arlene Crenshaw and husband Mark of Marshall, Texas; son, Kelvin Ray Hudman and wife Renita of Center, Texas; four grandchildren, Chad Crenshaw and wife Alyssa of Frankston, Texas, Aaron Crenshaw and wife Holly of Lafayette, Louisiana, Travis Crenshaw and fiancé Victoria Bauer of Flint, Texas, and Amy Matthews and husband Luke of Shelbyville, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Caleb and Micah Crenshaw, Aaralyn and Hazel Crenshaw, and Carrie, Maggie, and Sadie Matthews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses with Marshall Hospice and Healthcare and also to Dr. Jonathan Davis for the loving care provided to Mrs. Hudman.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery in Panola, Texas.
Pallbearers are Mark Crenshaw, Chad Crenshaw, Aaron Crenshaw, Travis Crenshaw, Joe Akins, Jimmy McCracken, and Choya Crenshaw.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Panola-Mt. Zion Cemetery Association, Post Office Box 243, Panola, Texas 75685.
