Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Joe Dean, 69 of Canton, Texas formerly of Carthage will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dale Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Dean passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Tyler.
Betty Joe Hattaway Dean was born on August 29, 1937 in Bernice, Louisiana to Joe Sanford Hattaway and Neva Lou Cobb Hattaway. Mrs. Dean attended Panola College in Carthage. She worked as an order processor for LandAmerica Title Company in Arlington, Texas. She loved sewing and quilting. Mrs. Dean was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved taking care of her family. Mrs. Dean had lived in Canton since 1986 moving from Giddings, Texas. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her parents, one son, David Dean; three grandchildren, Bridget Allison, Brandy Chamness, and Blake Dean; four brothers, C.W. Hattaway, Douglas Hattaway, Ruel Hattaway, and Buddy Hattaway; and one sister, Nell Lemoine.
Mrs. Dean is survived by two sons, Kenneth Bearden of Carthage and Travis Dean and wife Sherlene of Canton; one daughter, Wanda Arldt of Paige; one brother, Billy Hattaway and wife Jeanette of Dubach, Louisiana; three sisters, Pauline Thomas and husband H. L. of Carthage, Ruth Rowland of Dubach, Louisiana, and Carolyn Freeman of Carthage; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Dean.
Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Ishee, Joe Gage, Allen Elledge, Toby Grisham, and Paul Hattaway.
