A funeral service for Bernice Monic, 84, of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Monic passed away on Monday morning, April 27, 2015, in Carthage.

Bernice Birmingham Monic was born on Aug. 6, 1930, in Gary to the late Ollie and Epsie Bea Coleman Birmingham. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1948 and attended Panola College. She had lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Nearling Birmingham, Earline Brown, and Alice Ellis and a granddaughter, Brandy.

Back before the fast food craze, when times weren't so fast and everyone wasn't in a hurry, Bernice worked as a waitress at the Coffee Shop and later finishing her career at Joe's Family Restaurant. Everyone knew when they saw her they would receive a smile and kind word because she was one of Carthage's most gracious hosts. After her retirement, she spent most of her time sewing, gardening, caring for friends, and cooking for family and friends whom she loved dearly. Bernice will be sorrowfully missed and loved as she has gone to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Monic is survived by two sons, Allen Ray Monic and wife Glynda of Carthage and Lamar Monic of Houston; two granddaughters, Ashley and Karen; and two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Alivia.

Pallbearers are Chester Mills, Buddy Gossett, Jerry Bazer, Jerry Hanzsen, David Anderson, and Larry Davidson.
