A memorial service for Barbara Clopton Roberts, 80, of Lake Murvaul, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Ulrich officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Roberts passed away on Monday evening, June 2, 2014, in Carthage.
Barbara Jean Clopton Roberts was born on Nov. 6, 1933, in Caldwell, Burleson County, TX, to the late Clyde Lester and Mollie Jim Philp Clopton. She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston with the class of 1949 and later attended beauty school. She married Richard Benard Roberts on Apr. 25, 1970 in Houston, Texas and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2005. She was the owner of Dickers Butcher Shop for many years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Roberts moved to Carthage in 1995, from Houston and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Roberts, who passed away in 1976 and a brother, James Clopton.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her special friend and caregiver, Vermoyn Reeder of Carthage; four sons, Darwin McKinney of Conroe, Kenneth McKinney and wife Betty of Porter, Richard Roberts of Spring, and Timothy Roberts of Houston; daughter, Teri Roberts Moye and husband Randy of Carthage; two brothers, Walter Clopton and wife Nancy of Madisonville, and Kenneth Clopton of Houston; sister, Morrislynn Vasquez of Lake Murvaul. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Roberts.
