Graveside services for Mr. Augustous Pinkney "Gus" Matthews, age 56, of Houston, TX formerly of Tatum, TX, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Tatum Cemetery with Bro. Trey Roberson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Matthews passed away on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, in Houston.

Augustous Pinkney "Gus" Matthews was born on July 6, 1955, in Marshall, TX to Oliver William "O.W." Matthews and Willard Marguerite Williams Matthews. He graduated from Tatum High School with the class of 1973. Gus graduated from S.F.A. University where he participated in the drama program and earned a Master's of Fine Arts in Drama. He also graduated from Kilgore College where he played the drums in the band. He retired from teaching in 2010 from Ft. Bend I.S.D. where he taught drama and speech and served as the U.I.L. coordinator for the school district. Gus moved to Houston from Tatum eight years ago. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tatum. Gus was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Matthews is survived by three brothers, Paul Matthews and wife Ouida of Longview, Richard Matthews of Tatum, and Joe Matthews and wife Katie of Tatum; five nieces and nephews, Carla Rodgers of Tatum, Paula Matthews of Longview, Jim Oliver Matthews of Tatum, Olivia Matthews of Dallas, and Pierce Matthews of San Marcos; and a special daughter, Valerie Frazee and husband Cliff of Austin.

Serving as pallbearers are Jim Matthews, Pierce Matthews, Chuck Deaton, and Cliff Frazee.
