Obituary

A funeral service for Artilia Barryer, 98, of Beckville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Ashley Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. Mrs. Barryer was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Artilia Andrews Barryer was born on June 11, 1916, in Marshall, to Steward and Elizabeth Collier Andrews. As a young child, Artilia joined Shiloh Baptist Church and attended Panola County Schools. At an early age, she met the love of her life, Otis Barryer and they were married. To this union 5 girls were born. She was a caretaker and an excellent cook. She enjoyed spending time with family, telling riddles, and singing gospel songs. Artilia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Louise "Sis" Jones, Monroe "Bud" Andrews, Otis Andrews, Isaac Andrews, Rosie Lee-Speed, Herbert Andrews, Charlie V. Gates, Willie Lee Andrews, and Martha Jinks; and grandson, Johnny Otis Johnson.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Wilder; 5 daughters, Christene Reed, Pauline Hicks, Alice Jean Lynch, Annie Mae Jones (Vinson), and Shirley Johnson (Jessie); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers are Harold Johnson, Earnest Lynch, Jr., Willie Lynch, Kelvin Jackson, Vinson T. Murphy, and Willie Cartwright, Fredrick Lynch.

Honorary pallbearers are Jessie Miller and Vinson L. Jones.
