Ann Bates DeBrock, 95, of Carthage, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Carthage. Annie Lura Hill was born on Jan. 31, 1922, in Gary to the late Robert Feazell and Mary Applegate Hill. Ann graduated from Gary High School. She married Guy Wesley Bates on June 27, 1942, in Garrett Springs, TX and he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1966. She married Jim DeBrock on Jan. 22, 1977, in Carthage and he preceded her in death on July 20, 2004. She worked for Carthage Furniture, Keeling Food Store, the County Clerk's office for Roy Cadenhead, and at First National Bank for over 15 years as a teller. She had lived her lifetime in Carthage and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Ona Lee Martin, Jimmie Hill, Claburn Hill, Dennis Hill, Edna Porter, Callie Sanders, and Robert Hill; and a great-granddaughter, Jordan McLeod.
She is survived by sons, Donald Kent Bates and wife Margaret of Carthage and Scotty Bates and wife Luellyn of Atlanta; step-children, Kathy Phillips, John DeBrock, and Patsy Hill; sisters, Dena Faye Stirling of Snyder and Zelma Jones and husband D.R. of Katy; sisters-in-law, Virginia Frazier of Lake Cherokee and Doris House of Carthage; grandchildren, Curt Bates and wife Kendra, Stewart Bates and wife Robin, Stephanie McLeod and husband Roy, and Spencer Bates and wife Aimee; great-grandchildren, Claire Bates, Logan, Landon, and Luke McLeod, Colin, Emma, and Ethan Bates, and Alison and Ada Bates. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. DeBrock.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Scott and Rev. Kevin Otto officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Curt Bates, Spencer Bates, Stewart Bates, Roy McLeod, Colin Bates, Logan McLeod, and Landon McLeod. Honorary pallbearers are Luke McLeod, Ethan Bates, and Robert Gunter.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to staff and nurses at Briarcliff Skilled Nursing Center for the loving care shown to their loved one.
