Obituary

Amon Turner, 85, formerly of Carthage, TX, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at his home in Longview. William "Amon" Turner was born on May 5, 1936, in Telephone, Fannin County, TX, to the late William Isaac and Sarah Alice Miller Turner. Mr. Turner was schooled in Telephone and in his early years, worked on a farm for Billy McCraw from 1952-1954, for $4/10 hour day making a living for his mother and older brother. It was hard work but made him a better man. Amon opened Car-Tex Trailer in Carthage in 1972, a business he ran for 26 years before he sold it in 1996, to his daughter and son-in-law. After the sale, Amon continued to work there for another 9 years until his retirement. He was 32 nd Degree Mason and Shriner, having been a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 since 1962, receiving his 50-year pin in 2013, and was a member of Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler. Amon was a member of the Panola County Cattleman's Association where he enjoyed working and staying active for many years. He loved working on his place and being outside in God's creation and he always said that God blessed him in many ways. He married Gayle Frances Langley on July 2, 1999. He moved to Longview in 2014, and was a member of Center Cross. Amon was one of 10 siblings who have all preceded him in death, sisters, Ruby McClery, Iva Beazley, Marie Wade, Gladys McDowell, Willie Ruth Sanford, Joyce McCraw and brothers, Alvin, Lowell, and Billy Joe Turner. He was also preceded in death by his step-daughter, Angel Hollie who passed away in 2005.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Turner of Longview; daughters, Pam Mihlhauser and husband Steve of Carthage and Janet Centers and husband Tal of Montgomery; grandchildren, Alison Smith and husband Corey, Brittany Ford and husband Ryan, Dr. Cole Centers and wife Dr. Jessica Centers and Codi Leggett and husband Aaron; and great-grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Keaton Smith, Austin Smith, Samuel Ford, Elisabeth Ford, Avery Centers, and Bristal Leggett. Mr. Turner is also survived by step-sons, Shannon Baker and wife Mindy of Longview and Sean Baker of Longview; step-son-in-law, J.J. Hollie and wife Amy of The Woodlands; step-grandchildren, Sydney Deleon and husband Blaine, Trey Hollie, Aubrey Baker, Hannah Baker, and Karah Baker; and his fur babies by his side, Sunshine and Star.

A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Chad Commander and Blaine Deleon officiating. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Cole Centers, Trey Hollie, Tal Centers, Steve Mihlhauser, J.J. Hollie, and Alan Rivard.

Honorary pallbearer is Frank Sepaugh.
