Obituary
A Mass of Christian Burial service for Mr. Alvin Joe Novak, age 87, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church, 4088 NW Loop, Carthage, with Father Michael Adams officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home chapel. Mr. Novak passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2011.
Alvin Joe Novak was born on Aug. 10, 1924, in Flatonia, TX to John Frank and Agnes Tupa Novak. He graduated from Flatonia High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, having served in the 2nd Armored Division under Gen. George Patton. At the end of his military service, Mr. Novak was honorably discharged and became a life member of the V.F.W. Post #5620. He married Zelma Clarice "Toby" Minter on Dec. 1, 1944, in Shreveport. Mr. Novak worked as a Gas Operator for Champlin Gas Co. for over 40 years until his retirement. He moved to Carthage in 1953, from Gary and was a member of the St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church. Mr. Novak was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bessie Sevec; and one brother, Johnny Novak.
Mr. Novak is survived by his wife of 66 years, Zelma "Toby" Novak of Carthage; two sons, Stanley Novak and Don Novak and wife Kathy all of Longview; three grandchildren, Kerry Davis and husband Michael, Chris Novak and wife Salem, and Nicholas Novak; six great-grandchildren, Calli, William, Zoe, Phoenix, Corbin, and Alexis; one sister, Lillian Orsak; and a dear friend, Delmer Holder.
Serving as pallbearers are Don Novak, Chris Novak, Nicholas Novak, Michael Davis, and Delmer Holder. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mr. Novak's great-grandchildren, William Davis, Corbin Novak and Phoenix Davis.
