Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Gene Peterson Plumlee, age 72, of DeBerry, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at DeBerry Baptist Church with Reverend Hal Rymel officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in DeBerry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Plumlee passed away on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009, in Shreveport, Louisiana after a long battle with cancer.

Alma Gene Peterson Plumlee was born on October 23, 1936, in Telephone, Fannin County, Texas to Clarence Edgar and Genevia Sloam Mitchell Peterson. Her father, Clarence, was killed during the invasion of France on July 7, 1944. Alma was reared by her grandparents, Charlie and Anne Mae Mitchell in Fannin County. She attended Fannin County School District, leaving before her graduation. She married Robert Lowell Plumlee on January 4, 1974, in Idabel, Oklahoma. Alma finished High School earning a GED in North Carolina while on a tour of duty with her husband. She and Robert enjoyed many things together. Among their many interests was flying. Robert is a pilot and he completed his commercial pilot's course with Alma attending the classes with him. Robert taught Alma to fly, so she could land the plane in case of an emergency. She also shared with her husband a love of country music, hunting, and fishing. She and Robert have lived in DeBerry for the last 15 years, moving from Alaska. Alma was a devoted Christian and member of DeBerry Baptist Church. She consistently gave thanks to God for his many blessings. Mrs. Plumlee was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Plumlee is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Robert Lowell Plumlee of DeBerry; three sons to whom she was a devoted mother, Craig Richard Gray and wife Caren of Tenaha, Texas; Mark Gray and wife Janie of Houma, Louisiana, and Bryan Keith Gray of DeBerry, Texas; two step-children, Robert Glen Plumlee and wife Jocelyn of DeBerry, Texas and Margaret Lynn Palmer and husband Calvin of Jacksonville, Florida; eight grandchildren, Leigh Ramirez, Ryan Ramirez, Paige Plumlee, Blair Lobacz, Glen Philip Lobacz, Derik Gray, Atigun Plumlee, and her pride and joy, Victor Alan Gray, whom she raised from birth; two siblings, James Rafferty of Mesquite, Texas and Mahala Cullum and husband Edward of Plano, Texas; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Granville Henry Plumlee and Mary of Jena, Louisiana, Kenneth Jerome Plumlee and Carol of Santa Maria, California, Ronnie Mack Plumlee and Mary of Clifton, Texas, and Connie Maxine Johnson and Larry of New Boston, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Craig Gray, Mark Gray, Bryan Gray, Jim Rafferty, Derik Gray, and Victor Gray.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Leonard Cadenhead, Mike Shadowens, and Donnie Kelley.
