A funeral service for Mrs. Alliece Smith, age, 97, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Carter and Bro. Randy Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith passed away on Mother's day and her 72nd wedding anniversary, Sunday morning, May 12, 2013, at her home near Carthage.
Frances Alliece Hooker Smith was born on Sept. 25, 1915, in the Woods Community of Panola County, TX to Charles B. and Lolette Knight Hooker. She graduated from Tenaha High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. Mrs. Smith married Seth Edward Smith on May 12, 1941, in the Fair Play Community of Panola County. She taught school at the community schools of Rehobeth and Alsup and retired after many years from Carthage I.S.D. She loved cooking and sewing. Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Pisgah U.M.C. where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louise Sharp; and one brother, Dan Hooker.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Seth E. Smith of Carthage; one son, Don Smith and wife Patricia of Carthage; one daughter, Jan Wilt and husband Kent Hesterley of Carthage; two grandsons, Chad Smith and wife Meagan of Carthage and Marcus Durrett and wife Jodi of Lake Worth, FL; one brother, Charles Hooker and wife Carolyn of Tenaha; one sister, Floy Bousman of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Seth, Sawyer, Shepherd, and Stella Smith of Carthage and Cobin Durrett of Lake Worth; and a devoted caregiver, Twyla Sherrin. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Smith.
Serving as pallbearers are Chad Smith, Marcus Durrett, Carl Bardwell, Kevin Whitsett, Howard Rhiddlehoover, and Paul Leggett.
